Plein-Air Painting (6 weeks: March)

In this course, students will paint the tradition of Monet and the Impressionists: in the open air! Using acrylic, oil, or watercolor paints, students will bring their easels to paint landscape and garden scenes. This course will also include field trips to Brackenridge Park and the Japanese Tea Garden. Materials needed include brushes of various sizes (suitable to the type of paint you are using), palette knife (acrylic or oil), paint, palette (suitable to the type of paint you are using), palette scraper (if working in oil or acrylic), rags or paper towels, mineral spirits (if working in oil), can with lid for washing brushes, portable easel (optional, easels will be provided that can be transported) and prepared canvas (if using acrylic or oil) or watercolor paper ( if using watercolor).
